●競い、争うこと毋れ
無知で怠慢な者は、“社会的手抜き現象”と言われる行動を無意識にとる。どういうことかと言えば、スポーツなどを思い出せば直ぐに解る様に、自分より非力な人間と競争する時には全力を出さないし、明らかに技量が勝っている相手と競争する場合は、最初から諦め、これも全力を出さない。まあ、“兎と亀”の競争でも同じようなことがあり、それが屡のことであるから、長い間に“教訓”となっている。勿論、“環境や状況に合わす”というのが術語の本意であり、無意識の平均化である。『禅』はこれを徹底的に嫌う。
私が師からトコトン仕込まれたのは、正に“社会的手抜き”はするな、ということ。それを『勉強や仕事、つまりは“修行”を通じてトコトン自分を磨き上げる』という表現が使われた。言い換えれば、昨日より今日、今日より明日、自分で解るように成長しろ。それが己事究明になる。お前はお前の人生の主人公である。他の誰とも違う。磨いて磨いて鏡になるまで磨け。その為には、今・此処を晴れの舞台としてしっかりと“主人公”を務めろ。掃除の時は全身を雑巾にしろ。坐る時は富士の様に坐れ。 「人は城、人は石垣、人は堀、情けは味方、仇は敵なり」だ。その上で“心身一如、物心一如、自他一如”を生きろ。他人と比べるということ、真似をすることは罷りならん。頼まれたことは決して断らず、己が納得した方法で必ず実行しろ。風当たりが強ければ強いほど凧は高く上がる。
３０余年、このように生きてきたつもりである。しかし、まだまだ納得が行かない。最近、病のためか６時間程度の睡眠である。以前は数十年、３時間睡眠であり、仕事・勉学を半々としていた。・・・。
今、古い写真が出てきたためか、そんな思いが湧き上がり、涙が頬を伝う。まだまだだな。否、人生は一生修行だな。寝込んでいる暇は無いな。
